PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT PRODUCTION
Product Development & Production Setup
Move a physical product from idea, reference or sample toward production
You may have:
- An idea
- A design
- A reference product
- An existing sample
- A product that needs adapting
- A finished product that needs a better production structure
X.M separates this work into two phases so the development problem and the production problem do not get mixed together.
Phase 1 — Product Development
Requirement → manufacturer-supported development → sample → revision → sufficiently developed product
Depending on the category, X.M may help: clarify the commercial product requirement, work from an idea, design, reference product or sample, structure the manufacturer-supported development route within the agreed development scope, coordinate samples, communicate defined changes, support commercially relevant product adaptation and progress the product toward a production decision.
The manufacturer or relevant specialist remains responsible for the technical work they actually perform.
Phase 2 — Production Setup
X.M may structure: manufacturer setup, MOQ, available production pricing, sample/final-sample status, production-relevant information, key dependencies and the commercial basis for moving into production.
Production Setup ends when the defined product and commercial production structure are sufficiently established for a production decision.
It does not automatically become ongoing production management.
A customer may enter directly into Production Setup where the product is already sufficiently developed.
Likewise, a customer may complete Product Development and decide not to proceed immediately into production.
What X.M coordinates — and what others perform
X.M can structure and coordinate the commercial product-development process within documented capability.
That does not mean X.M becomes: the physical manufacturer, a laboratory, a formulation scientist, an engineer, a certification body or a regulatory authority.
Where specialist development is required, X.M can identify the dependency and coordinate around it where appropriate, but the specialist remains responsible for their own work.
What you receive
Depending on the phase, the output may include:
Product Development
- Clarified product requirement
- Sample-development structure
- Documented revisions
- Manufacturer-development route
- Sufficiently developed product direction and defined next step
Production Setup
- Manufacturer structure
- MOQ and available production economics
- Sample/final-sample position
- Production requirements
- Identified dependencies and production-decision basis
What happens next?
If the product itself is already defined and the main issue is manufacturer selection:
Product & Supplier Sourcing
If production is established and you need to understand the cost of moving the finished product:
Shipping & Landed-Cost Assessment
Once production readiness is established, where the next question is whether the product is commercially ready for a defined market:
Market Entry Preparation
Tell us what exists today — idea, design, sample or finished product — and where you need to get to.
Category capability
Availability depends on product category and development requirement. Some categories require external formulation, laboratory, regulatory or technical capability. Those cases are assessed before the work is accepted.
What is not included by default
Unless specifically scoped, this service does not include: unlimited sample rounds, unlimited redesign, laboratory work, regulatory approval, certification, engineering, physical manufacturing cost, sample cost, freight or continuing production management.
Scope and commercial terms
Materially different products, further revision cycles, multiple manufacturers or substantial specialist involvement require a review of the agreed scope.
